The Department of Humanities of the Danube Institute of the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” held its traditional annual English Language Competition on November 10-12, 2025. The main aim of the event was to assess the cadets’ proficiency in both “Practical and Professional Maritime English”. Thus, the competition consisted of two stages:
– the task of the first stage was to complete a written test.
– the task of the second stage was to demonstrate the cadets’ speech skills.
The second-year cadets from six Educational and Professional Programs (EPPs) took part in the first stage. Based on the results ten cadets with the highest scores advanced to the second stage. The winners were determined at the final stage of the competition. During that stage the top cadets defended their rights to represent the Danube Institute of the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” at the final Ukrainian National Competition.
Participants were tasked with:
describing pictures depicting on various problematic situations on board ships;
identifying and correcting errors violating navigational safety rules;
answering additional questions of the jury.

10-12 листопада 2025 року була проведена щорічна Олімпіада із загальної та морської англійської мови серед здобувачів вищої освіти 2-го курсу ОПП «Навігація і управління морськими суднами», ОПП «Управління судновими технічними системами і комплексами», ОПП «Менеджмент в галузі морського та річкового транспорту», ОПП «Експлуатація суднового електрообладнання і засобів автоматики», ОПП «Транспортні технології на морському та внутрішньому водному транспорті», ОПП «Інформаційні системи та технології» викладачами англійської мови кафедри гуманітарних дисциплін Дунайського інституту Національного університету “Одеська морська академія”, зокрема д.п.н., проф. Желясковим В.Я., к.п.н., доц. Тимофєєвою О.Я., к.ф.н., доц. Колмиковою О.О., к.п.н., доц. Чиж С.Г., к.п.н., доц. Демченко О.М., ст.викл. Константиновою Т.М., ст.викл. Романовською О.Р.
Основною метою традиційної щорічної олімпіади було перевірити рівень знань із загальної морської англійської мови курсантів 2 курсу ДІНУОМА.
Під час першого та другого етапів олімпіади з англійської мови були проведені тести, а також перевірені мовленнєві навички учасників. У першому етапі олімпіади взяли участь 27 курсантів 2-го курсу, з яких 10 здобувачів освіти з найкращими результатами було відібрано журі до другого етапу. Переможцями олімпіади із загальної і морської англійської мови стали:
1. Шеремет Дмитро (ОПП «ТТ на МВТ»)
2. Халіков Максим (ОПП «ТТ на МВТ»)
3. Павленко Костянтин та Новак Роман (ОПП «УСТСіК»)
